Saturday, July 19: Popsicles and Playgrounds!

I'm delighted to share that thanks to the generous support of Wash Cycle Laundry, a new bike-based laundry-delivery service in DC (!), you can purchase Pleasant Pops at a discounted price of just $2 each. They'll be accompanying us on the ride with one of the nifty electric cargo trikes (!!!) that that use to pick up and delivery laundry.

For our last ride of the summer, we’ll cool off with refreshing gourmet popsicles from Pleasant Pops and then head up to the Petworth Playground to enjoy their splash park. This ride will offer a great chance to practice biking on all kinds of different streets and infrastructure--bike lanes, sharrows, and calm neighborhood streets.

We’ll meet early at 10:00am to beat the heat at the Columbia Heights plaza, across from GALA Hispanic Theater. From there, we’ll bike to Pleasant Pops in Adams Morgan, where you can buy a popsicle to cool you off (and a sandwich to eat later, if you’re so inclined) before we leave for the next leg -- a trip up to the Petworth Recreation Center and Splash Park -- a personal favorite of the Odett household!

Date: Saturday, July 19, 2014
Time: 10:00am
Location: Meet at Columbia Heights Civic Plaza (14th, Kenyon and Park Streets NW). Click here for the route.
Distance: 4 miles
Difficulty level: Easy (all on infrastructure and quiet streets)

Purchasing popsicles: to speed us through the line at Pleasant Pops, we'll collect orders and payments up-front at the beginning of the ride and send just one representative into Pleasant Pops to pick up the popsicle order. Popsicles are $2 each for anyone participating in this ride.

About Wash Cycle Laundry: Founded in 2010 in a laundromat with little more than a single bike and a single trailer, Wash Cycle Laundry has now grown to have over 30 employees operating five laundry facilities in two markets and a fleet of cargo trikes delivering thousands of pounds of cargo each day throughout Washington, DC and Philadelphia. Our friends at Kidical Mass Philadelphia have praised Wash Cycle Laundry for the quality of their service, their service to their local community, and their commitment to sustainable practices. We're thrilled that they've brought their service to DC.
